LGC is the UK’s leading independent analytical testing services business, providing services to public and private sector bodies. It provides analytical testing services around its core testing competencies: forensic science, food regulation, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
The continual increases in regulation across a spectrum of markets are driving the demand for analytical testing services. There is also a trend to outsource these services, particularly by the food and pharmaceutical sectors. LGC is well placed to benefit from these market trends. The business includes BSE testing and DNA testing for various police forces.
LGV acquired LGC in 2004 with a strategy to support organic growth while looking to pursue complementary acquisitions in this fast-growing market. Since the original transaction, LGV has supported the business in making seven bolt-on acquisitions, contributing to a doubling of turnover and trebling EBITDA during LGV’s period of ownership.
In February 2010, LGV sold its interest in LGC to Bridgepoint in a transaction valuing LGC at £257 million.
